Panthers unable to capitalize on early momentum


Pittsburgh opened the game with two interceptions, but failed to score on either. Notre Dame, on the other hand, converted Pittsburgh's turnovers into points, scoring on their next possession with an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.


Pittsburgh's offense looked out of its depth


The Panthers struggled on offense, advancing just 53 yards rushing and 127 yards passing. Quarterback Christian Velleks had a rough day, totaling four interceptions.

Panthers defense can't contain the Irish


Notre Dame's offense exploded in the second half, scoring 27 points in the third quarter alone. The Irish ran for 155 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 288 yards and a touchdown.


Next week's game could produce similar results


Pitt's next opponent is No. 4 Florida State. The Seminoles are undefeated on the season and they have a lot of talent on both offense and defense. Pitt will have a tough time beating the Seminoles next week.


Overall, the Pitt soccer team had a disappointing day. The Panthers struggled on both offense and defense and were outplayed by a much stronger Notre Dame team. However, there were still some positives from the game. Vileks is still a young quarterback with a lot of potential, and the Panthers' defense was outstanding at times. With a little more luck and a little more improvement, Pittsburgh can still end the season on a strong note.
